A City of Mesa official says a letter circulated to residents concerning a warranty program for sewer lines is genuine.

The letter, sent from Service Line Warranties of America, has the City of Mesa’s official log on top and provides information about the Sewer Line Warranty Program, which covers the cost of repairs if an issue arises with a home’s sewer service line.

City spokesperson Kevin Christopher said the information contained in the program is accurate, although he said the program is optional for residents. According to a press release, the city negotiated an agreement with Service Line Warranties of America to offer the program at no cost to the city and without the use of public funds to promote it.

The warranty program, which was presented to the Mesa City Council as part of the body’s partnership with the National League of Cities, is meant to cover the repair expenses of sewer lines that are on a homeowner’s property; sewer lines on homeowner property are the responsibility of the homeowner and not the city.
