With the new school year fast approaching, Mesa Unified School District will be needing volunteers to help out in the classroom. The Your Experience Counts program brings community groups and volunteers 50 and older together to help students in under-resourced schools. As a volunteer, you can work alongside teachers, one-on-one or with small groups of fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders on reading, writing, math and science.

Training in Mesa is scheduled to take place in September. Application and background check are required.

To learn more, attend a summer mixer 11:30 a.m. Aug. 1 at Rio Salado College Conference Center, 2323 W. 14th St., Tempe. Lunch will be served. To reserve a spot and get more information, contact Shannon Dealing at Shannon@handsonphoenix.org or call (602) 973-2212, Ext. 230. To get an application, visit www.yourexperiencecounts.org.
