Helen’s Hope Chest, Mesa United Way’s clothing bank for foster children, needs your help to restock for back-to-school season. There are two ways to help:
• Groupon Grassroots, the philanthropic arm of Groupon, is partnering with Helen’s Hope Chest in a fundraiser this week for “Jeans for Tots, Tweens, and Teens.” To participate, go to www.mesaunitedway.org, click on the Groupon link under “What’s New,” subscribe to Groupon — it’s free — and purchase the Helen’s Hope Chest benefit Groupon for $10. All the proceeds will purchase new jeans for kids of all ages. The fundraiser runs through Sunday, July 1.
• Throughout July you can drop off new or gently used children’s and teens’ clothing, backpacks, school supplies, diapers, baby supplies and hygiene products at the Superstition Springs Center guest services or any Thursday Kids Club at the mall. The Christmas in July event will feature a visit by Mrs. Claus to the Kids Club 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. July 12. Donors will receive a free gift.
Helen’s Hope Chest, which served more than 2,800 foster children last year, hopes to purchase at least 22 pairs of jeans through the Groupon fundraiser, said Dan Wollam, Mesa United Way’s president and CEO.
“We hope people will spread the word about this project to their friends and family and encourage them to participate,” Wollam said.
Helen’s Hope Chest was founded three years ago by Mesa United Way after the state cut to $12.50 a month the amount it provides foster parents for clothing and supplies.
