United Food Bank in Mesa is asking the community to donate turkeys, other holiday foods and cash to help feed tens of thousands of people in need this holiday season.
"We did not come close to meeting the demand we had last year," Bob Evans, United Food Bank president and CEO, said in a news release. "We're hoping to improve that this year and we're stepping up our efforts to make it easier for people to make a donation."
The food bank will extend hours for at its facility, 245 S. Nina Drive, on the following days for anyone to make a donation of a frozen turkey, canned vegetables, boxed stuffing, packaged mashed potatoes or other goods, or cash donations:
• 8 a.m. to noon, Nov. 12.
• 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 14-18.
• 8 a.m. to noon, Nov. 19.
• 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Nov. 21-23.
People can also bring donations to the Dana Park Village Square shopping center, Val Vista Drive and Baseline Road, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 12, when a large refrigerated truck will be on hand to collect the donations.
