Excessive heat warnings remain in effect until Thursday evening for metro Phoenix, Tucson and other desert communities in south-central Arizona.

The hot weather in Phoenix tied the record for the date set in 2006 with a high of 110 degrees on Monday,

Meteorologists say highs in the Phoenix area are expected to be around 107 to 109 for the next three days. They say the normal temperature this time of year is about 100 degrees.

Excessive heat warnings also apply to Tucson, Nogales, Sierra Vista, Safford, Willcox and parts of the Tohono O'odham Nation.

Authorities urge people to drink plenty of water, wear hats and light-colored clothing and avoid spending time outside during the peak heat hours of the day.
