A man was killed after driving his minivan into the back of a street sweeper in Mesa on Tuesday morning.
About 5 a.m., the driver of the van and the street sweeper were traveling southbound on Gilbert Road between Adobe and University Drive when the van drove into the back of the street sweeper, according to Detective Steve Berry, a Mesa police spokesman.
The deceased man was identified Tuesday afternoon as Charles Lopez, 22, of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. It was not known whether he was speeding when the crash happened.
