An elderly woman crashed her car into a craft store in Mesa Tuesday morning, sending four people to the hospital, police said.

An elderly woman drove into a Jo-Ann fabric store near Main Street and Recker Road around 11 a.m. and hit four women inside the store. Three of the victims are in serious condition with potentially life threatening injuries, police said.

Police said the driver, who is in her mid-80’s, apparently thought she had put the car into park before crashing into the store. Two of the victims were trapped under her vehicle, and all of those hit were transported to a hospital by ambulance.

The Mesa police traffic unit is investigating, but police said impairment does not appear to be a factor.
