A woman has been shot and wounded after she allegedly pointed a gun at a police officer in a Mesa retirement community.

Mesa police say the officer was serving a warrant on the woman Wednesday afternoon, charging her with driving under the influence.

The officer talked to the woman in the driveway of her home at Dream Land Villa retirement community.

Police say the officer and woman walked into the home together and she somehow was able to get a gun.

The woman and officer ended up in the backyard of the home, where police say she raised the gun toward the officer and he feared for his safety.

Police say the officer shot the woman and she was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her name hasn't been released.

The police officer showed sound judgement. If the victim of the shooting was someone of color, do we cast logic aside and call it racist?
