A Valley woman's dying wish was fulfilled this Mother's Day weekend, thanks to the Dream Foundation.
Heidi Markus has colon cancer and less than a year to live. The Dream Foundation flew in 16 of her family members from across the country to be with her in Mesa this weekend.
Heidi is staying positive. She says her illness brought her family closer together.
For her last wish, she could've taken a trip, or done many other things, but she said all that matters is family.
"When it came down to it, my final wish would be to have my family together," she said.
Before Heidi's family says their goodbyes, they still have more memories to make.
"I wanted them to know, when it comes down to it, that family's really important," she said.
Heidi says it's been hard for the family to get together over the years. But some hidden blessings have come out of her illness. Her family has been reunited.
"You always pray for healing. And of course I wanted to be healed from cancer. Well He healed my heart and my mind and my soul," she said.
Heidi's son Gerrit is grateful to the Dream Foundation for making it all possible.
"Just the fact that somebody would be willing to come help us do what we couldn't do, is pretty cool. And I get to see Mom," he said.
Heidi says she couldn't have wished for more.
"It's just so amazing. God is so good to have granted my dream," she said.
The Dream Foundation helps fulfill wishes for adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
