Mesa police arrested a 30-year-old gang member from California on suspicion of prohibited possession of a firearm during a traffic stop on Wednesday.
Police say DeCarlo Henderson, an ex-convict, was carrying a loaded and unholstered .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol in his car when they pulled his vehicle over about 3:15 p.m. in the 1500 block of West Main Street.
An officer noticed that the California license plate on Henderson’s car had expired in October and executed a traffic stop.
Henderson, who had previous convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, auto theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm and driving on a suspended license, admitted to having the firearm in his car and said he had been released from parole in November 2009, police said.
