Tooth decay: the ways we care for your teeth
How do I know if I have tooth decay?
A decayed tooth could either be broken or dark and discolored. An x-ray is often the best way to reveal whether you have tooth decay or not. If we can restore your natural tooth than we perform a root canal treatment where we put a post in and then the crown on top of it. If the tooth can’t be restored with a root canal than we extract the tooth and an implant is placed. We give the implant a couple months to heal and then the patient comes back and has a crown put on it.
Is a root canal or an implant the only two treatments offered?
No. Our treatments vary on how much tooth decay you have. If there is a small amount of decay then a patient will just need a small amount of filling. If there is some decay with no root or nerve damage then a crown is a put on. If there is extensive decay then that’s when a root canal with possibly a crown is put on. After that partial dentures are offered, which replace one or several missing teeth or there’s the full denture where all the teeth are extracted - dentures can be placed with mini or full size implants to retain the denture without slipping. Basically, there are a variety of options it just all depends on the condition of your teeth.
Do I have to make a separate appointment to have a scan done on my teeth?
No. Just call in and we can do it at your next visit. You will then receive a complimentary consultation where we will take a scan with our 3D imaging system and then assess what your needs are. If you have any questions feel free to call our office at 480.834.9001.
