Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake will speak about immigration issues at a town hall event in Mesa on Aug. 27.
Hosted by the Arizona Republic, 12 News and USA Today, the two senators will answer questions about issues related to immigration reform at the Mesa Arts Center’s Piper Theater from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
Both McCain and Flake are members of the Senate’s gang of eight — a collection of four Republican and four Democrats who have worked to create a bi-partisan immigration reform bill. The bill passed the senate with 68 votes in June, but the House of Representatives has not acted on it yet.
During an event hosted by the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce on Aug. 21, Flake said the bill features a higher level of border security than he expected going into discussions, and said the bill as a whole would be good for Arizonans. He added the odds of getting the bill in front of President Barack Obama are “just over 50/50.”
The event live-streams at azcentral.com on the Aug. 27 and will be taped for later broadcast on Channel 12.
