A 19-year-old man police say had a blood alcohol level of nearly three times the legal limit was arrested after colliding with another vehicle, causing it to run off the road and crash into the master bedroom of a Mesa home and jolting its sleeping occupants awake.
Police say that about 3:30 a.m. officers saw Michael Abbott speeding along McLellan Road minutes after a Yukon SUV crashed into the bedroom of the home in the 1500 block of North Spruce Circle. After stopping Abbott and finding he had a preliminary blood alcohol level of .234, officers noticed that damage on his Mazda matched the color and type of damage on the Yukon whose driver was not located.
Abbott, who said he could not remember being in an accident, was arrested on suspicion of DUI in connection with a hit-and-run crash. The occupants of the home were not injured.
