Politics and art will meet during Wednesday's Republican presidential primary debate in Mesa when downtown businesses host a tongue-in-cheek event called Republi-Con. Organizers say they've invited the candidates to the event at 4 p.m., when politically themed artists will show their work and spoken-word artist Klute will debate any takers on Arizona issues.
The event includes watching a broadcast of the 6 p.m. debate, followed by a party until 10 p.m. Republi-con will be held at Queen's Pizzeria, 125 W. Main St. It's being put together with Evermore Nevermore, a pop culture business that operates online after closing its downtown Mesa store last year.
