Freeway improvement work in the Phoenix area will require closures or lane restrictions this weekend, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, consider alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the following weekend restrictions are in place:
· Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) off-ramp at Hawes Road closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday (April 13). DETOUR: Consider exiting at Power Road.
· Northbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) closed between Bell Road and Union Hills Drive from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday (April 14) for overhead sign installation. The north- and southbound SR 51 on-ramps at Bell Road also closed. DETOUR: Northbound traffic exiting at Bell Road can use 32nd or 40th streets to Union Hills Drive to reconnect with SR 51. Use Union Hills Drive or Greenway Road to access southbound SR 51.
· Grand Avenue (US 60) narrowed to one lane in both directions between 71st and 84th avenues in Peoria from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (April 15) for paving. Intermittent closures of approximately 20 minutes also planned along 75th, 83rd and Peoria avenues at Grand Avenue. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time, use caution in work zones and consider alternate routes.
· 83rd Avenue closed overnight at Grand Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (April 13) for paving. DETOUR: Consider using 67th Avenue, Cotton Crossing or 91st Avenue.
