The City of Mesa announced on July 9 that city council member Dina Higgins will resign from her position effective Aug. 15.
According to a press release from the city, Higgins, who joined the council in 2008 and won re-election in 2010, is stepping down from her post, citing the demands of her full-time job as a business development manager and the weekly travel as her reasons.
“It has been a true honor and privilege to represent the residents of District 5 for the past five years,” she said in the release. “I want to thank the residents in District 5 for their support and confidence in me to represent them. My experiences as a councilwoman in the City of Mesa have enriched my life beyond any of my expectations. I have grown both professionally and personally from the many encounters with the wonderful residents. I am grateful for this opportunity and will always reflect back on my time on the Mesa City Council fondly.”
Information about the process of appointing a replacement to fill Higgins’ seat temporarily will come in the near future.
