Mesa’s Fire Department will donate two fire pumpers to its sister city of Guaymas, Mexico. The trucks date to 1985, have met the city’s replacement criteria, and can no longer be used as frontline vehicles in Mesa.

But Mesa firefighters say the trucks are still operational and will be of high value to Guaymas, where the fire department is building its third fire station with limited funding. The Guaymas firefighters now cover 4,633 square miles with five fire trucks.

The Pierce Dash fire pumpers would only sell for $5,000 to $15,000 each. Mesa firefighters recommended the donation, which was agreed to by the City Council.
