A Mesa police officer was treated for back pain Wednesday after a car collided with his patrol car as it was parked in the gore point of the on-ramp at U.S. 60 and Stapley Drive.

According to Detective Steve Berry, Mesa police spokesman, the patrol car had on its overhead lights when the car, which was traveling westbound in the emergency lane of the highway, smashed into the rear of the patrol car.

The driver, whose name was not immediately available, was suspected of being impaired by drugs or alcohol and was arrested.
