The president of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce has received an outpouring of support after having brain surgery to remove a tumor.

Peter Sterling is recovering at home after surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix to remove a glioblastomas tumor, and will soon start chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

An update through the chamber said the surgery “makes it clear that Peter has a very serious problem that will require intensive care and therapy.”

Sterling is eligible for an experimental treatment for glioblastomas that Barrow has developed.

He’s already begun physical therapy.

Sterling returned home March 24 and has been getting well wishes after the chamber set up a Facebook page dedicated to his recovery. It can be found at www.facebook.com/MesaChamberPeterSterling.

The chamber said it is working on a schedule to allow visitors to see Sterling between therapies.

Sterling became the chamber’s president in January 2011 and has worked to expand the chamber’s membership and visibility. He was a consultant with the East Valley Partnership for two years before joining the chamber. He had previously lived in Orange County, Calif.
