Phoenix Police on Friday arrested two men in the September murder a 17-year-old Olympic boxing hopeful from Mesa.

Sgt. Trent Crump said Robert Chavez, 22, and Joseph Corrales, 23, allegedly beat to death Alexis Urbina-Ochoa, 17. The suspects are being held on $1 million bond apiece after being arraigned Tuesday.

Urbina-Ochoa's mother discovered him unconscious just a few hours after she left their house near Broadway Road and Central Avenue.

Crump said the two suspects were arrested while allegedly attempting to sell property stolen from the home during the alleged burglary and attack on Urbina-Ochoa.

One of the men in custody invoked his rights while being interrogated by authorities, Crump said. The second suspect provided an interview and, investigators say, admitted to involvement in the crime and implicated the co-defendant. It was not immediately clear which suspect spoke with authorities.

Both Chavez and Corrales have been booked on charges of first degree murder, second-degree burglary and trafficking in stolen property.

Urbina-Ochoa was the 2013 USA Boxing Youth National Champion was training in a Phoenix gym for the 2016 Olympics.
