In recognition of World Understanding Month, the Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club dedicated a Peace Pole in front of Mesa City Plaza. Each Peace Pole is a handcrafted monument that displays the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" on each side of the pole written in different languages reflecting the community’s population.
Masahisa Goi created the Peace Pole in 1955 in Japan. To date, more than 200,000 Peace Poles have been planted in 200 countries throughout the world. The Peace Pole at Mesa City Plaza is the fourth Peace Pole planted in Mesa. The others are located at the Mesa Urban Garden, Mesa Community College and Montessori International School.
