Mountain View grad promoted to colonel in army

Mesa native Matthew Goodman has advanced to the rank of colonel in the United States Army.

Goodman, who attended Mountain View High School, received the promotion to “bird colonel” during a recent ceremony. He serves in the BMC Sustainment Division, which oversees the Army’s personnel, administrative, logistics, transportation and budget functions.

In his career in the Army, Goodman has served in Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. His assignments have also taken him to Hawaii, Korea and Germany.

Additional awards Goodman has earned include two Bronze Star Medals, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, five Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal.
