The police officer who found the abducted 8-year-old Mesa girl on Sunday just bought her a brand new bike for Christmas.
Mesa police Officer Jonathan Appel was the first officer who was in the area where the 8-year-old victim was abducted.
Appel was the first person that the girl saw after she escaped from the suspect.
The officer returned the girl to her family, but officials had to take the bike she was riding for evidence.
The next day Appel took the family to Walmart and bought a new bike out of his own pocket.
“I did not want her to be without a bike for Christmas. I wanted her to have a new bike, to which she could affix new and happier memories,” Appel said.
