A series of village meetings around Mesa are scheduled for the rest of October and into November in order to collect public comment on the city’s general plan.
State statutes require municipalities create general plans — updated every decade and approved by voters — that provide an outline of what the city will look like in the future for the community.
The draft will be discussed at the Nov. 20 Mesa Planning and Zoning Board, and city staff will attend other community events to discuss the plan throughout the process. A final plan will be prepared for public hearings and adoption by the Mesa City Council in June 2014, and will be placed on the November 2014 election ballot.
All of the village meetings will open their doors at 6:30 p.m. for an open house and begin presentations at 7 p.m. on their respective dates.
The dates and locations are: Oct. 22 at Falcon Hill Elementary, located at 1645 N. Sterling Street; Oct. 23 at Johnson Elementary, 3807 E. Pueblo Ave.; Oct. 29 at City Utilities Building, 640 N. Mesa Drive; Oct. 30 at Crescent Crown, 1640 W. Broadway Road; Nov. 7 at Ishikawa Elementary, 2635 N. 32nd Street; and Nov. 13 at Superstition Spring Elementary, 7125 E. Monterey Ave.
