Mesa PD accepting applications for Senior Police Academy

The Mesa Police Department is taking applications from residents age 60 and older for its upcoming Senior Police Academy.

The classes, which begin Oct. 16, provide participants information about the agency’s operations and presentations on hostage negotiations, gangs, homicide, SWAT and other aspects of policing. To sign up, prospective participants have to be at least 60 years old, live in Mesa, have no prior felony arrests and no misdemeanor arrests within a year of applying.

Classes run from 9 to 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday at the Red Mountain Station located at 4333 W. University Drive. For more information, or to apply, contact Ofc. Karen Stegenga at (480) 644-5014 or email her at karen.stegenga@mesaaz.gov.
