The threatened Motorcycles on Main monthly event will likely continue next year despite its creator pulling his sponsorship. The Downtown Mesa Association is planning to take over the event on the first Friday of each month, starting Jan. 7. The DMA is working to line up sponsors to cover $3,000 in costs and is hopeful it can do so by year’s end, said David Short, the DMA’s executive director.

“We don’t have much time, but I’m thinking we’re going to do it,” Short said. “I’m thinking positively about it.”

Downtown business owner Jon Richards created the event with other merchants earlier this year, hoping the city or DMA would eventually take over an event that drew 3,000 people each time. The DMA agreed to do so only after Richards announced in November he was ending his affiliation with it.

We liked this event and have attended a few of them. I think events like this are the only thing keeping downtown Mesa going. Would be a shame to see this one come to an end.

    Ditto.

Some of my best friends are bike nuts. Anyone very go to Gerome on a weekend? Bikers fill the streets. It's a grand location for an interesting hobby/sport.

Never been to the event, I don't have a bike. But one day will get another. I use to have one, early college years but had to sell it to make ends meet.

Why does it cost $3,000.00! Didn't know it cost money to use or ride on a public street, unless it is a tollway or something.
