What started as a brainstorming activity to consider ways to raise funds for the Glenn Kimber Academy — a private school in Mesa —quickly morphed into much more.

The “Raise the Standard” event will feature Glenn Beck and David Barton as keynote speakers in a two-day “celebration of God, family and country” on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12, said Nancy Genys, director of Glenn Kimber Academy’s Mesa campus.

Genys and Pam Stevenson, another Gilbert mom, were looking for ideas to fund the build-out costs for the new school when they learned that Glenn Beck wanted to help.

“We decided it was too self-serving to have him come and have it just be a fundraiser for us. The idea of ‘Raise the Standard’ came to me,” Genys said.

The event is meant to “unite individuals with likeminded beliefs who want to help raise the standard in all areas individually — and collectively make a difference,” Genys added.

Entertainers and presenters will address raising the standard in a number of specific areas, including education, entertainment, parenting, values, self-reliance and health. These are areas“where there has been a breakdown and an erosion, which has, therefore, had a negative impact on society,” Genys said.

Attendees will be encouraged “to take action and to begin a movement towards change, real change that comes from within, not something that is mandated by the government,” Genys said.

The event will begin Friday, Oct. 11, with a VIP lunch and meet and greet with David Barton, Alan and Suzanne Osmond, Glenn Kimber and other featured speakers.

Friday evening’s gala event will include musical performances and addresses by Beck, Barton and Kimber, along with an exciting lineup of other speakers. The gala will be held at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix. It begins at 5 p.m. for the preshow, followed by the main event at 6.

Beck is one of America’s leading multi-media personalities, whose quick wit, candid opinions and engaging personality have made The Glenn Beck Program the third highest rated radio program in America.

Barton is the founder and president of Wall Builders, a national pro-family organization that emphasizes America’s moral, religious and constitutional heritage.

Kimber is the founder of Kimber Academy, an affordable private school “dedicated to teaching a love of learning, instilling a love of God, family and country while providing an outstanding academic education.” Kimber is also president of the Thomas Jefferson Center for Constitutional Studies.

Among the other presenters for the Friday gala will be Alan Osmond, the leader and eldest performer of the original Osmond Brothers; Bowers, who, with his family, produced the documentary called “AGENDA: Grinding America Down;” Nicholeen Peck, popular parenting expert and speaker; and Jim Sharpe, radio reporter and anchor. Also presenting will be Gilbert-resident, Sharon Slater, president of Family Watch International and well-known advocate for the family; Shane Krauser, founder and director of Gilbert-based American Academy for Constitutional Studies; Laurie Vukich, “The Healthy Beauty Coach” and others.

Attendees will also learn from Justin Rohner, Katherine Nelson, Leah Martineau, Nancy Genys, Pam Stevenson, Sam Sorbo, Sylvia Puente, Ted Hayes, Wendy DeWitt and more

Many of the Friday-night speakers will be available for the free workshops and booksignings on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Clearview Cultural Center at 1355 S. Clearview Ave. in Mesa.
