With lion dances, firecrackers, games and more, the Mesa Amphitheatre, 263 N. Center St. will host a two-day celebration of the 2013 Lunar New Year. The event will be held 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

“This important holiday is an occasion for the Vietnamese people to have family reunions and friends gathering for feasting”, said Kevin Dang, the newly-elected President of the Vietnamese Community in Arizona. “It is also a time to express respect and remembrance to the elders and ancestors.”

Also called the “Spring Festival,” the Lunar New Year is a major public holiday observed in many parts of the world. In the United States, this holiday is widely celebrated within the Chinese and Vietnamese communities.
