A Mesa man is in custody on suspicion of child endangerment for allegedly holding a young child on the ledge of an apartment's upstairs window.

Mesa police say 31-year-old Marco A. Carrillo told officers early Tuesday that he had been poisoned by a dart before the incident.

He was taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons and then booked into jail.

Police say Carrillo called 911 about possibly being poisoned. When officers responded, he refused to open his door.

More officers arrived as Carrillo broke out an upstairs window, pushed out the screen and reportedly held a 2-year-old child on the ledge.

KPHO-TV says police broke into the apartment through the back door and while an officer distracted Carrillo, they were able to grab the child and arrest Carrillo.
