The Mesa City Council will consider next week a three-year contract to purchase about $1 million in waste and recycle barrels annually.
The Solid Waste Management Department estimates the city will need 500 35-gallon barrels, 2,900 60-gallon barrels and 18,500 90-gallon barrels per year for new residents and to replace old or broken barrels.
The council will vote during Monday’s meeting to award the contract to Rehrig Pacific Company at $1,068,077.59 annually for three years, with a one-time option to renew for two years. The meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. in the council chambers at 57 E. First St.

Why is this newsworthy?
Why not look at the two developments that sprang forth from vacant land at 1st Ave and Macdonald?
The government subsidized housing project that was fast tracked through city council so that the Tempe based developer, with a Mesa name, could get $1.8mil in tax breaks.
And the stealth Goldwater Library that got approved without any public comment or oversight.
Who pockets the money? Not Mesa taxpayers! They take it in the shorts!
