Handel's 'Messiah'

Conductor Michael Christie, the Phoenix Symphony Chorus and the Baroque Ensemble will present highlights of George Handel's "Messiah" in a festive, candlelit setting. The performance is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St.

Snow day

The Valley may not get any natural snow, but don't let that stop you from frolicking in a winter wonderland. Golfland Family Entertainment Center, 155 W. Hampton Ave,, will set the holiday mood with 15 tons of snow, lights, decorations, music and more from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Tickets are $2 per half-hour.

Holiday jazz concert

The Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St., will host "Dave Koz and Friends: A Smooth Jazz Christmas" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Koz, a Grammy award-nominated saxophonist, will be joined by David Benoit, Rick Braun, Brenda Russell and Peter White to perform an evening of classic holiday tunes with a jazz flair, in addition to their own original compositions.

'Living With Urban Wildlife' lecture

Learn about the various wild animals that live among us every day. How do they survive? Are they dangerous? What should you do if you encounter them? Pack a lunch and learn the answers to these questions and more from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Usery Mountain Regional Park, 3939 N. Usery Pass Road.

The program is free, but there is a $6 park entry fee per vehicle.

Children 8 to 14 are invited to stop by the program room in the Red Mountain Branch Library, 635 N. Power Road, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for a showing of the movie "The Spiderwick Chronicles."

Winter break camp

Parents looking for a way to keep their children busy during the holiday break from school may want to enroll them in the winter break camp at the Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St.. Participants will be taught classes in dance, music, art and drama by professional instructors. The programs run 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Enrollment is $35 per day or $120 for all four days.

'Meet Me in St. Louis'

Celebrate Christmas by taking in a musical. This stage production is based on the classic movie and features a score packed with memorable songs. There will be presentations at 1:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Broadway Palm Theatre, 5247 E. Brown Road.
