A Mesa man has been convicted of killing his former girlfriend's baby son.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 30-year-old Justin Richard Sobolik was convicted Friday of child abuse and first-degree murder in the August 2006 death of 7-month-old Logan Nicholas Balk.
Sobolik is scheduled to be sentenced March 18 and prosecutors say could be facing life in prison.
Sobolik was babysitting the boy at an apartment when he called police to report that the child had stopped breathing.
The baby was admitted into a hospital and pronounced dead the next day.
The Arizona Republic says Sobolik was arrested nine months after the death when an autopsy found the child died of blunt force trauma to the head. Sobolik wasn't the biological father of the child.
