Mesa City Council members Scott Somers and Dennis Kavanaugh were each named to a separate Valley Metro board of directors.
Press releases sent by the City of Mesa state Somers, who represents District 6, is now the Chair of the Valley Metro Regional Public Transit Authority board of directors after serving as the group’s vice chair in 2012.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as the chair for the RPTA board of directors,” he said. “Having been a member of the board for the past five years and having served as vice chair, I believe the board can work to gain more cost control in order to improve service regionally, as well as increase the accountability to our customers.”
Kavanaugh, who serves District 3, was named the vice chair of the Valley Metro Rail board of directors for the second time; he previously served in that role from January 2011 until July 2012.
“I am honored to once again serve as the vice chair for the Valley Metro Rail board of directors,” he said. “I look forward to continuing the work my colleagues and I have done on growing the rail system here in the Valley.”
