A driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run east of the Valley Wednesday morning may also be to blame for a second fatal crash, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
The first incident involved a woman in her 50s who was struck and killed while riding a bicycle on Usery Pass Road near the Bush Highway around 9:15 a.m.
According to MCSO spokesman Joaquin Enriquez, the driver who fled was then involved in another fatal accident at McKellips and Ellsworth roads about 10 minutes later.
Enriquez said a male driver in his 50s was killed at that scene.
Air15 video over the scene showed a badly damaged Kia Soul sitting in the intersection. A Honda pickup truck could also be seen in the dirt alongside the roadway.
Authorities said the 73-year-old female driver who apparently caused both crashes has been taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Authorities said they're not sure whether or not the woman was suffering from a medical condition that would have caused her to crash two times. Speed does not appear to have been a factor in the incidents.
The Maricopa County Department of Transportation said the intersection of McKellips and Ellsworth was reopened around 4 p.m. after crews cleared the scene.
