Deadline for historical fiction writing contest for Mesa students set for Nov. 14

Students in Mesa have until Nov. 14 to contribute their literary skills to the Historical Fiction Writing Contest.

Open to students in grades four through six who live in Mesa, the contest has students write a fictional story with real or imagined characters based on the military air fields Falcon Field or Williams Air Force Base during World War II or based on the history of the Mesa Grande Ruins. Winners are selected based on historical accuracy, writing and creativity.

Essays have to reflect a student’s own research, writing and original ideas, be a maximum of 750 words and be either typed or neatly written. Every contestant gets a certificate of participation, and the top-three finishers will receive recognition at a Mesa City Council Meeting.
