Want to learn more about "no burn days" in Maricopa County?
You can during the brown bag series at noon, Dec. 13, hosted by the Maricopa County Air Quality Department, 1001 N. Central Ave., Phoenix.
Last year during the holiday season, the Valley experienced several high-pollution days.
On Christmas Eve 2010, the fine-particle (PM 2.5) pollution index reading of 125 exceeded the national air quality standard of 100. The next day, the index reached 161. Then on New Year's Day, the index reached a high reading of 170 - again, solidly in the unhealthy category. These levels pose a serious air quality concern.
The brown bag event is free to the public. Reservations are requested to khooker@mail.maricopa.gov or (602) 506-5102.
