Phoenix residents have scheduled a public debate on water fluoridation in advance of an upcoming city council vote on whether to continue putting fluoride in the city’s water supply.
Two experts — Paul Connett, a retired professor of environmental chemistry and toxicology at New York’s St. Lawrence University, and Dr. Howard Farran, a dentist in private practice in Ahwatukee — will debate the issue from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 5. The debate will be in Phoenix College’s Bulpitt Auditorium, 1202 W. Thomas Road. The debate is free and open to the public.
Fluoridation has recently been in the news in the East Valley as the Town of Gilbert is investigating why fluoride was not added to water at one of the town’s treatment plants.

Once again, ignorance and hysteria reigns.
The unbounded ignorance of the radical Mormon/Tea Party/Ultra cons is spewing out from every mouth.
Never mind that it has been proven safe for 40 years, the ignorant clods can't stand anything that isn't their idea.
Too bad they can still make babies for themselves.

Holy commie plot, can we say John Birch Society (AKA tea party), man I haven't heard about this nonsense since the 1950's when all the red scare baiters JBS tried to tell us that flouride was a red chinese plot to brainwash Americas children.
I guess today flouride is a Socialist plot hatched when Obama was what 6.

What is with Gilbert lately, JT Ready, Neo-Nazis, Tea party politicians, and Sarah Palin too.
Seems to me maybe that border fence you crackpots are always screaming about ought to be built around Gilbert to protect the rest of us from you.Iw

Our children have 70% caries rate after 40+ years of water fluoridation. Until 2 years ago, our dentists and local doctors didn't even know the chemical that was being used - hydrofluosilicic acid (HFSA), a toxic industrial waste product that affects harmfully infants to seniors including pets. It's not safe. It's not effective. I've accompanied friends to doctors and ER who are allergic after having merely showered in this poison,. Highly toxic, poisoning the body year after year. Affecting the kidneys, thyroid, those with diabetes and more. Seizures. Who would have thought drinking water that's supposedly safe would get seizures.
But just look at 41% of nations kids having fluorosis - the first sign of fluoride poisoning.
Phoenix is lucky to have Dr. Paul Connett speak and debate, and educate the ignorant masses if they still don't know the chemical they're consuming.
Saturday, I met Dr. James Woods, DDS who for 25 1/2 years has been practicing in Sonoma County, Calif. He's also leader of Political Action Committee for Dental Association. He's also a councilman In Healdsberg, Calif. Guess what? He doesn't even know what HFSA is. That tells you how ignorant our professionals are.
Last year 17 yr old boy died of osteosarcoma. His doctor is chief of staff at our local hospital. Fortunately, this doctor is doing his research. He is not going to endorse the opposition to our ballot Measure calling for a moratorium until Basic Chemical Solutions can provide 1,) toxicological report, 2.) listing of contaminants and 3) proof that their product is both safe for all ages and effective.
Last year I wrote to 40 manufacturers and/or suppliers of this product asking for just those things. NOT ONE RESPONDED.
I hope Phoenix has elected officials that are as concerned about their constituents as I am. Good luck, Phoenix. And, remember to do your homework.
The astroturfers who claim that this poison is safe and effective have been paid for far too long to support the Dental Assn's, Pew Trust and Delta Dental. Look at the money trail. Then you'll know why this poison has been in the drinking/bathing water 65 years.

"Never mind that it has been proven safe for 40 years"
Um, downtownresident?
If you own a tube of toothpaste, look at the ingredients to make sure there is flouride in it.
Then read the instructions on what to do if "accidentally swallowed", and please note the words POISON CONTROL.
