Santa Claus, the Mesa Fire and Medical Department, Mesa Police and Southwest Ambulance joined with Mesa Councilman Dennis Kavanaugh to deliver hundreds of toys Monday to the young patients at Cardon Children’s Medical Center.
A vintage 1941 fire truck brought the new, unwrapped toys that had been collected by Kavanaugh, Mesa Police, and students at Mesa’s East Valley Institute of Technology, who raised $1,000 to purchase toys at Mesa Riverview WalMart
“We hope today’s toy delivery will lift the spirits of the children who have to spend their holiday in the hospital,” Kavanaugh said in a news release. “The community support we receive for this toy drive, especially by the students at EVIT, is very much appreciated. These toys really make a difference in the lives of these children”
More than 900 toys were donated, marking a 50 percent increase in the number of toys donated from last year’s toy drive. For more information on how to donate new toys to Cardon Children’s, call (480) 412-8158.
