The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has extended Tuesday’s ozone health watch through Wednesday. Rising ozone levels may approach federal standards, prompting the health watch, according to a release.

Ozone is an invisible gas created when other pollutants in the air are heated by the sun. Prime ozone production comes in the late afternoon. People with existing respiratory conditions should limit time outdoors.

Drivers are urged to carpool and only fuel vehicles in the morning or after dark to help cut down on ozone production.

I feel like people overlook the benefits and convenience of carpooling. If co-workers are all going to the same place at around the same time in the morning and some of them live near each other, why not just share a ride? You save gas money, you save the planet from more greenhouse gases, and you can even save time if the city has HOV lanes. A website called Amovens (us.amovens.com) actually facilitates the carpooling process by letting people set their own prices for getting a ride or giving a ride.
