Gilbert, in partnership with the Merrill-Mitchell American Legion Post 39, will have its eighth annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 on the Town Hall lawn.

This year’s ceremony has been recognized by the Veterans Day National Committee as one of three regional sites in Arizona for celebrating Veterans Day 2012. Joey Strickland, director of the Arizona Department of Veterans Services, will be featured as this year’s guest speaker. Strickland served in the U.S. military for nearly 29 years and is a life member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and of the Disabled American Veterans.

The Mesquite High School Band will begin playing at 11 a.m. and the ceremony will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon. A complimentary lunch will be served to all in attendance.
