While America is catching the Olympic spirit and learning about London this summer, one East Valley native is sharing the other-worldly experience she had at the last Olympic Games — in Beijing, China.
Shannon Young, who grew up in Gilbert, attended the 2004 Athens, Greece Olympics with her father, before heading to China four years later.
Young’s book “The Olympics Beat: A Spectator’s Memoir of Beijing” showcases “the drama, the variety, the spectacle” of the Olympics — essentially the “non-athlete side of the games.”
Currently living in Hong Kong, Young is a graduate of Colgate University and has written multiple travel memoirs.
According to a press release, during the week of its release, “The Olympics Beat” was No. 1 in the China travel category and in the top 20 of the travel memoir category at Amazon.com.
