The Southeast Regional Library, 775 N. Greenfield Road, will host a talent show with 17 acts featuring musicians, dancers, singers and other performers. This free event will be 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The Southeast Regional Library, 775 N. Greenfield Road, will host a talent show with 17 acts featuring musicians, dancers, singers and other performers. This free event will be 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The show is part of Gilbert’s “Turnoff Week,” a semiannual event that tries to motivate families to get out and try new things rather than watch television and other digital media.

Discounted Diamondbacks tickets

The Diamondbacks are offering discounted tickets to all Gilbert residents for the game against the Padres at 5:10 p.m. Saturday at Chase Field, 401 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix. Tickets are $15 for lower-level bleacher seats and $10 for upper-level seats.

This is the final Saturday home game of the season for the D-Backs, so don’t miss your chance to cheer them on.

Camping skills instruction

Now that the weather is cooling down, it’s the perfect time to venture out into the outdoors. Learn the basics that you need to know for an enjoyable camping trip. Naturalist Scott Cleaves will lead this free class 7 p.m. Thursday at the Riparian Preserve, 2757 E. Guadalupe Road.

Cooking class for kids

Are your kids hungry to learn their way around the kitchen? This hands-on course will teach children 7 to 12 how to safely cook a full meal, including dessert. Take-home recipe packets will also be provided for participants.

The class will meet Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the McQueen Park Activity Center, 510 N. Horne St. The registration fee is $35.

'She Loves Me’ stage show

The Hale Centre Theatre will present the play “She Loves Me” beginning Monday and running through Oct. 10. This romantic comedy musical is set in Europe in the 1930s and details the love between pen pals.

The theater is located at 50 W. Page Ave. Ticket prices are $22 for matinees and $24 for evening shows.

Art masterpiece story time

Children 7 to 14 are invited to attend this program from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in the Perry Branch Library, 1965 E. Queen Creek Road. Participants will learn about the life and art of a famous artist. They will then have the chance to create their own works using the artist’s techniques.

Recreation classes available

Looking to get the kids out of the house? Interested in picking up a new skill? Registration is open for a fall slate of Gilbert recreational classes.

Knitting and crochet club

The Common Threads, a knitting and crochet club, will meet 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Newsstand Room at the Perry Branch Library, 965 E. Queen Creek Road. All ages and ability levels are welcome to come and share projects, food and friendship.
