Environmental classes for kids

Children 7 and up are invited to spend some of their spring break learning about the environment and wildlife at the Riparian Preserve, 2757 E. Guadalupe Road. There will also be a dinosaur or archaeology dig each day. The programs will run 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday.

The workshop will cost $15 per day, and advance registration is required.

Library story time

Local libraries offer story-time programs for young children to help them develop a love of books and reading from an early age. The Perry Branch Library, 1965 E. Queen Creek Road, will hold a pre-kindergarten session from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and one for families with children 4 to 7 from 6 p.m. to 6:40 p.m., both on Tuesday.

'Guys and Dolls' show at Hale Centre

The Hale Centre Theatre will present the classic musical play "Guys and Dolls" through April 3.

This tale of love and romance is set in New York City during the rollicking 1940s and is filled with memorable songs.

The theater is located at 50 W. Page Ave.

Ticket prices are $22 for matinees and $24 for evening shows.

Basketball and soccer clinics

Boys and girls will be able to learn the fundamental skills in basketball and soccer this week. There will be a basketball clinic held 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the McQueen Park Activity Center, 510 N. Horne St. Registration is $23.

For soccer fans, there will be a camp from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the Freestone Park soccer fields, 90 E. Civic Center Drive. Sign-ups are $55.

Explore the Riparian Preserve

An interpretive ranger-led tour of the 110-acre Riparian Preserve, 2757 E. Guadalupe Road, will be offered at 8:30 a.m. Monday. A $3 donation is requested to take the tour.

The preserve's numerous plants will be on display during the garden tour and desert gardening programs at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Saturday. These allow participants to work in and learn about the habitat gardens in the preserve with plant biologist Jennie Rambo.

Hear about how the preserve maintains a healthy and diverse environment. Learn how you can use similar techniques in your own home garden.

Also on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m., there will be free bird walks through the preserve. Groups will gather and depart from the Dragonfly Ramada at the preserve.

Recreation classes

Looking to get the kids out of the house? Interested in picking up a new skill?

Registration is open for the spring session of Gilbert recreational classes. Take a look at the wide variety of activities offered by the town at the Freestone Recreation Center, 1141 E. Guadalupe Road.

Dance, sports, education, fitness and martial arts are just a few of the courses offered. Registration fees and starting dates vary.
