Youth fishing day
The Arizona Game & Fish Department will host a free morning of fishing from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Riparian Preserve, 2757 E. Guadalupe Road. The preserve at the lake is stocked with a variety of fish, including catfish, trout and bass.
This event is a great opportunity to give children a chance to try their hands at fishing. If you don't have a fishing pole, gear and bait will be provided for free to the first 100 participants.

As part of the town's monthly "Concerts in the Park" series, the band Exit 40 will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Freestone Park amphitheater, 1015 E. Juniper Ave.
Residents are invited to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy this free evening concert. Food and drinks will be available for sale as well.

This festival celebrates all things canine with dog adoptions, contests, games, live entertainment and more. Events will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Gilbert Towne Center, 90 E. Civic Center Drive. Admission is free, but there are fees for some activities. Proceeds raised from the event go to benefit homeless animals in the community.

Astronomy lecture and star viewing
Various astronomy concepts and new discoveries will be discussed during this monthly lecture series at 8 p.m. Friday in the library classroom at the Southeast Regional Library, 775 N. Greenfield Road.
A $3 donation is requested for the lecture. Afterward, the East Valley Astronomy Club will have telescopes set up outside for a free public star-viewing party.

'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' play
The Copperstar Repertory Company will present a production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage adaptation of the biblical saga "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."
The play is filled with a variety of musical numbers designed to entertain the whole family.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, along with a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts, 4132 E. Pecos Road. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students.

'She Loves Me' romantic comedy musical
The Hale Centre Theatre will present the play "She Loves Me" through Saturday. This romantic comedy musical is set in Europe in the 1930s and details the love between pen pals.
The theater is located at 50 W. Page Ave. Ticket prices are $22 for matinees and $24 for evening shows.
