In the mood to do some good? Donate some blood and help maintain the supply for local hospitals. United Blood Services will hold a blood drive Wednesday. The bloodmobile will be parked in front of the town’s administration building at 50 E. Civic Center from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. It will then move to the police department, 75 E. Civic Center, where it will be open from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

'Beau Jest’ stage show

The Hale Centre Theatre will present this comedic play by James Sherman from Thursday through Feb. 13. 

To fool her parents, Sarah Goldman hires an actor to pose as her boyfriend. Can he keep up the charade under pressure from all sides?

Vampire book discussion

Thirsty to talk about the latest vampire book or want to sink your teeth into a new one? Teens are invited to attend this gathering at the Perry Branch Library, 1965 E. Queen Creek Road, to talk about their favorite vampire novels. A suggested reading list is available for those looking for a place to start. Snacks will be provided.

Discover the plants of the Riparian Preserve

The preserve’s numerous plants will be on display during the desert gardening and garden tour programs at 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Saturday. These programs allow participants to work in and learn about the habitat gardens in the preserve with plant biologist Jennie Rambo. 

Hear about how the preserve maintains a healthy and diverse environment. Learn how you can use similar techniques in your own home garden.

Library story time

Local libraries offer story-time programs for young children to help them develop a love of books and reading from an early age. The Perry Branch Library, 1965 E. Queen Creek Road, will hold a pre-kindergarten session from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and one for families with children 4 to 7 from 6 p.m. to 6:40 p.m., both on Tuesday.

Coyotes community night for Gilbert

Gilbert residents are invited to bring their families and friends out to see the Phoenix Coyotes play at Jobing.com Arena, 9400 W. Maryland Ave., Glendale, on Jan. 30 for Gilbert Community Night. 

The Gilbert Fire Department has partnered with the Coyotes to offer special discounted tickets for the game against the New York Rangers. Lower-level seats are $40 and upper-level seats cost $20.

Recreational classes available

Looking to get the kids out of the house? Interested in picking up a new skill? 

Registration is open for the winter session of Gilbert recreational classes.
