Gilbert will hold a series of classes for residents wanting to join the town's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) beginning July 28 at the Fire Administration Amphitheater, 85 E. Civic Center Drive, Gilbert.

The class will meet Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Sept. 8.

CERT is a Federal Emergency Management Administration program that trains volunteers to provide assistance in emergency situations by assisting first responders in emergencies and disasters, giving support to victims, organizing other volunteers and gathering information. They also work on nonemergency projects that improve community safety.

People wanting to participate can get information and fill out an interest form at www.ci.gilbert.az.us/fire/volunteers.cfm, or call Kim Yonda at (480) 503-6325.
