The Gilbert Police Department's Alarm Unit has announced its alarm awareness class schedule for the next three months.

The classes, which begin at noon on Monday, Jan. 30 at the department's training facility, 75 E. Civic Center Drive, will help residents learn about how alarm systems work in your home and how to prevent false alarms.

Other classes will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Feb. 28 and from 5-7 p.m. on March 26.

Registration is required by calling (480) 635-7459, sending a Fax to (480) 635-7095, or by e-mailing policealarms@gilbertaz.gov.

Upon completion of this class you will receive a waiver certificate that may be used to waive a penalty for a false alarm. You may only earn one certificate during a calendar year.

Gilbert residents are allowed two false alarms per year without paying a penalty, but then are assessed a $50 fee for a third false alarm. Every penalty after that increases by $50.
