The Town of Gilbert’s development services director, Greg Tilque, was placed on administrative leave Thursday after 24 years with the town.
It is unclear at this time why Tilque has been placed on administrative leave, but it’s not related to the town’s fluoridation incident from last summer, said Jennifer Alvarez, town spokeswoman.
Gabe Engeland has been assigned as interim developmental services director, Alvarez said. A national search to find a replacement will begin in the next couple of weeks.
“I cannot tell you anything else at this time. We may have more information in the next few weeks,” Alvarez said.
A memo sent to town employees from the human resources department states, “A decision has been made to change leadership within the Development Services Department.”
In late August, it was discovered that the water supply from Gilbert’s North Water Treatment Plant had not been treated with fluoride for over a year. The incident resulted in the resignation of the public works director and the dismissal of the town’s water manager.
