Beginning with its Sunday, July 7 print edition, the East Valley Tribune in Gilbert has become the Gilbert Tribune.

Publisher Terry Horne says the change reflects what the Tribune is — a local community newspaper. He said the Gilbert Tribune will focus on Gilbert people, events and be the community’s watchdog of local government and institutions. Editors will continue to share important news and events in neighboring East Valley communities that Gilbert readers care about most.

“The future of news is local. World, national and state news are a commodity that is easily obtained from many sources in print and online,” Horne said. “Our intention is that our print editions, online editions, web sites and community newsletters will be the top sources of information and advertising for your community.”

EastValleyTribune.com will continue to be the online home for breaking news from Gilbert and across the East Valley. The Tribune can also be found on Facebook or Twitter.

The Tribune newspaper name first appeared in Mesa in 1913 as the Mesa Daily Tribune. In 1997 it was combined with the Tempe Daily News, the Chandler Arizonan, the Gilbert Tribune and Scottsdale Progress to become the East Valley Tribune. The East Valley Tribune name will continue to be used in parts of the East Valley, but Gilbert residents will receive a Gilbert edition focused on Gilbert.

“Gilbert is a strong family-based and value-based community,” said Ryan Kedzierski, Tribune associate publisher, who lives in Gilbert. “We intend for the Gilbert Tribune to reflect those things that make Gilbert special.”
