The Higley Center for the Performing Arts has a slate of holiday performances set up for December, highlighted by a show this Friday by a Grammy-award winning group.
Beginning at 8 p.m., the Blind Boys of Alabama will sing a few seasonal staples along with songs from the 2003 Grammy-winning album “Got Tell it on the Mountain.”
On Saturday, the Phoenix Children’s Chorus will perform its Holiday Memories show at the venue beginning at 7 p.m. The chorus, which has 300 members, will sing pieces ranging from “O Holy Night” and “Winter Wonderland” to less-traditional songs like “Twelve Days After Christmas.”
An auction is scheduled before the show starting at 4 p.m. to raise money to support the group’s musical education program, scholarships and touring program.
Also on the docket is the Southwest Youth Ballet Theater’s upcoming performance of the “Nutcracker Suite” at 7 p.m. on Dec. 20 and at 2 and 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 21. The ballet members will perform the holiday classic to the music of the Chandler Symphony Orchestra.
